Alma Rae Spicer SmithAlma Smith - 1923-2008

Alma Rae Spicer Smith, 84, of Ashland died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. The Jackson, Ky., native was born Feb. 9, 1923, the daughter of the late Cardvel and Elva Ferguson Spicer. She was the wife of the late Jack Smith Sr., who passed away in 2000. They were married for 62 years.

She was retired as a custodian at Ashland Community College and formerly worked at Bellefonte Country Club. She was a member of Christ Center Ministries in Russell.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Talmadge Smith Sr.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack Jr. and Edith Smith of Fayetteville, N.C., and Oscar Sr. and Jane Ann Smith of Ashland; five daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary A. Bell, Sharon K. Farrow, Linda S. Carey, Melissa and David Strader, all of Ashland, and Sylvia and Noble Manley of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Denzel Ferguson of Ashland; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and one special granddaughter, Denzella Letcher.

Funeral will be noon Monday at Steen Funeral Home, Marshall Steen Chapel, with the Rev. Henry L. Mosley officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Christ Center Ministries, 347 Etna Street, Russell, Ky. 41169.
