My memory of "Chigger" is a beautiful and touching one--when he was married to Mildred Adkins. For years she had gone to Church in Bellefonte without him, but when I asked him if he wished to be baptized, he readily agreed. What a happy moment! Such joy that brought to him, his family, and the Church and community. Later I was involved with the Calvert family in a happy fashion, but I thank God for the joy of his reception into the Kingdom of God, and the happiness that brought to Mildred in her final years. Thanks be to God for a life well-lived!

My mother, Doris Greene was sorry to have been unable to attend Mr. Adkins'service. As a resident of Trinity Station in Flatwoods, they have been under quarantine for approximately the past week due to flu outbreak among residents there. She often spoke of Raymond as a respected and beloved cousin. I remember him giving me my first good softball that lasted more than two weeks! I am sure he will be sorely missed by community and family alike. Please accept our heartfelt condolences and know that our thoughts and prayers are with family and friends. - Mark Greene

Dear Mrs. Adkins, I just wanted to let you know how fond of Chigger my family was. My dad was Cooter Caines and Chigger was one of my dad's best friends. I came to know Chigger when I was working at the Elk's kitchen over 20 years ago. They called me "little Cooter", and Chigger always came to talk to me when he came in. He was an outstanding athlete, and a very special man. Since my mom and dad are both gone now it is hard for me to go the funeral home, but know that I have a special place in my heart and many prayers for you and your family in this time of loss. God Bless you all Diatra (Dee) Caines Maddox
