Walter,Anita,Doug, and Becky, May the Lord bless and keep you and may He be your comfort and friend. Ruth was to me the true southern belle; soft spoken, gentle, and upright with southern hospitality. Walter is the southern "gent" special to us all. You will remain in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Carolyn

Walter: Even though I was unable to attend Ruth's funeral, I was there in spirit. I am so glad we had that wonderful visit with you both in August. I will cherish that. We are praying for you, Walter and the rest of the family. Ruth touched many lives and she will be fondly remembered. Love, Eleanor

Ruth Rayburn and her husband, Walter, are two of the finest people I have known. They were also my parents' best friends. Much of my childhood was spent with them at their home or my parents' home doing what some would have thought were mundane things. Their daughter, Anita, and I both made our way into the United Methodist ministry; and, at the ages of about 2 and 3, we sang a duet at what is now Christ United Methodist Church in Ashland. Though we live far apart, I still consider Anita one of my very best friends and someone with whom I share much in common. Virtually every major holiday I can remember was shared with Ruth and Walter and when younger with their children. Even after my parents died, they continued to share in our family gatherings at my sister's home in Ashland. I have the flu and couldn't come to Ashland today or yesterday; but it was not because of lack of desire. I truly loved Ruth and continue to love Walter as I would a dear uncle. My thoughts and prayers are with Walter, and Anita, Doug, and their children and grandchildren. May our family love continue into the life to come.
