Paul E.  PurvisPaul E. "Bobby" Purvis - 1935-2008

Paul E. "Bobby" Purvis, 73, of Catlettsburg, Ky., died April 8, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center.

He was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Ashland, Ky., a son of the late Howard T. and Ella Clark Purvis Castle.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Howard T. Purvis Jr., and two sisters, Phyllis Purvis Coy and Janet Gail Purvis.

He was former manager of Barney Williams Co. and Ashland Auto Parts. He was a salesman for Lube Equip. He was a member of BPO Elks 350 and a former member of the Arky Stars Dance Club and Rebel Rounders Dance Club and Olympic Bowling League Club for 30 years.

Surviving are his wife, Donna Samples Purvis of Catlettsburg; a son, Gary Purvis and wife Leigh Ann of Ashland; two daughters, Shirley Sullivan and husband Bill of Atlanta, Ga., and Bonnie Bishop of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Sue Malone and husband Chuck of Columbus, Ohio; three granddaughters, Sydney Purvis, Kalyn Bishop and Kyleigh Bishop; and three furry friends, Jake, Pebbles and Maddie.

To celebrate the life of Paul E. Bobby Purvis, services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2008, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Everett Stevens. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.

I am a friend of Carolyn Samples and met you (Donna) and Paul on at least one occasion. I know that you are suffering; please know that your family is in my prayers. I know Paul was a great guy.

I fondly remember Paul and Donna when we danced with the Arky-Stars many years ago. In fact, they were very helpful in teaching us how to square dance. My thoughts and prayers are with Donna and the family at this time.
