Charlene Marie SteilCharlene Marie Vaughn Steil (1919-2008)

Charlene Marie Vaughn Steil, 88, of Ashland, Ky., died July 20, 2008, in South Haven Rehabilitation in Birmingham, Ala.

Mrs. Steil was born Oct. 17, 1919, at Hardy, Ky., a daughter of the late Daniel Everett and Maude Eloise Childress Vaughn.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, W. Edwin Steil, in 1993; and three brothers, Maurice L., Warren S. and Gerald Eugene Vaughn.

She was a retired secretary and administrative assistant and formerly employed by C.H. Parsons, Boyd County High School, Fairview High School and Ashland Community College. She was a graduate of Pikeville and Ashland Business College, a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was very involved with United Methodist Women (WSCS) and was the District UMYF sponsor. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star and the Democratic Womens Committee and a volunteer at KDMC.

Surviving are two sons, W. Edwin Steil and wife Hollie M. of Fayetteville, Ga., and Condit F. Steil and wife Rhonda B. of Birmingham; and grandchildren Edwin Rusling Steil of McDonough, Ga., Everett McDowell Steil of Sautee-Nacoochee, Ga., Neal Jackson Steil and wife Rachel of Birmingham and Laura Lynn Steil of Lexington, Ky.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2008, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Gene Pillow. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 24, 2008, at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions to First United Methodist Church, 1811 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.

Charlene and I became friends while attending Body Recall classes. She was always so cheerful and a lot of fun. I know that you will have many fond memories of the lovely person she was
