John Harvey LockwoodJohn Harvey Lockwood - 1926-2008

John Harvey Lockwood, age 82, of Ashland, Ky., died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008 in Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

He was born Sept. 5, 1926, in Ashland, a son of the late Ewell and Bertha Childers Lockwood.

He was also preceded in death by brothers Clarence Lockwood, Raymond A. Lockwood and Charles Lockwood; and a sister, Garnett Louise Burks.

He was a retired crane operator at AK Steel, a 50-year member of Wildwood Baptist Church, and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Roma Miller Lockwood of Ashland; one son, Larry R. Lockwood and his wife, Cleta, of Cincinnati, Ohio; one daughter, Carol Justice and her husband, George, of Ashland; one brother, William Henry Lockwood of Ironton, Ohio; four sisters, Lois Mae Dixon of Ashland, Betty Fannin of Flatwoods, Ky., Joann Akers of Ashland and Mary Marie Lockwood of Ashland; four grandchildren, Jeffrey and Leigh Ann Lockwood, Christina Black and Jason Justice; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley and Kacie Black, Ryan Justice and Violet Lockwood.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Jim Nichols. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 93 of Kenova, W.Va.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions to Wildwood Baptist Church Building Fund, 3414 Charles St., Ashland, KY 41102.
