Delores Blankenship Blanton - 1929-2008

James T. Blanton, 82, and his wife, Delores Blankenship Blanton, 79, of Flatwoods, Ky., died as a result of an automobile accident.

He died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, in Boyd County and she died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, in St. Marys Medical Center.

Mr. Blanton was born Oct. 29, 1925, in Ashland, Ky., a son of the late Daniel L. and Flora Crose Blanton.

He was retired from Armco Steel after many years of service. He was a World War4 II Navy veteran and a member of Unity Baptist Church, where he served for many years as a deacon and treasurer. He was an Extra Class licensed amateur radio operator examiner, a Kentucky colonel, a member of the Lions Club and worked with Boy Scouts for many years.

Mrs. Blanton was born July 16, 1929, in Ashland and was a daughter of the late James P. and Rue Pertie Stacey Blankenship.

She was also a member of Unity Baptist Church in Ashland, where she served in the childrens nursery for many years. She also served as PTA secretary in the Ashland Independent School District and as a Girl Scout leader.

The couple were preceded in death by daughters Beth Ann Blanton, Carolyn Sue Miller and Vickie Lynn Blanton.

Survivors include a daughter, Terri Lee Blanton of Northern, Ky.; grandchildren Christina Thacker, Joshua Kiser and David Miller; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Blanton is also survived by a brother, Clyde Blanton of Ashland.

A joint funeral service for the couple will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Mike Rice. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. A military service will be conducted by Kenova American Legion Post 93.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions to the Boyd County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1516, Ashland, KY 41101.
