William  Hurley

William Earl Hurley - 1922-2008

William Earl Hurley, 86, of Ashland, Ky., died Oct. 29, 2008, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility following an extended illness.

Mr. Hurley was born April 13, 1922, in Carter County, Ky., the son of the late David Henry and Minnie Alice Crosthwaite Hurley.

He was also preceded in death by brothers Millard Hurley and Dorsie Lee Hurley and sisters Nannie Alice Layne, Sadie Pearl Layne, Beulah Marie Parsons and Bertha Evelyn Lawhorn.

He was a retired TV repairman and formerly worked at Zwicks Music. He was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served with the Army Combat Engineers.

His survivors include his wife, Noreita Miller Hurley of Ashland; a son, William Edward Hurley and wife Donna of Peyton, Colo.; stepsons William Edward Mauk and wife Marsha and Thomas Ora McKnight and wife Hope, all of Ashland; daughters Susan Lynn Chinn and husband John and Nancy Louise Brown and husband George, all of Ashland; stepdaughters Renita Luanne Colm and husband Hobby, Elaine Sparks and Karen Denise Beam, all of Ashland; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Bishop Brian Hunt. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum, with military rites by Kenova American Legion Post 93.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 31, 2008, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
