OLiver Wendell Oliver Wendell Sonny Shockey Jr. (1934-2008)

Oliver Wendell Sonny Shockey Jr., 74, of Ashland, Ky., died of natural causes on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Shockey was born March 2, 1934, in McRoberts, Ky., a son of the late Oliver Wendell and Lake Erie Blair Shockey.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Hoke Shockey.

He was the former owner and operator of Ashland Original Market and retired from the security department of Ashland Oil and the South Point Ethanol Plant.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Poage Lodge 325, F&AM, Ashland BPO Elks 350, El Hasa Shrine and American Legion Post 76.

Surviving are daughters Dana Guiler and husband Mike of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Diann Clark of Huntington, W.Va.; brother Billy Ray Shockey of Grayson, Ky.; sisters Betty Lovin, Ann Sturgill and Lou Points, all of Ashland; nieces Stacy Stevens, Julie Adams, Carrie McClendon, Lisa Shockey, Kim Robinson, Carla Kirk, Johnda Rebel and Jill Pollard; nephews Scott Lovin, Stuart Lovin, Crawford Shockey, Paul Shockey, Mason Sturgill and John Sturgill; granddaughters Danielle Webb of St. Petersburg and Emily and Ashley Nance of Huntington, W.Va.; and a great-granddaughter Ava.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by Chaplain Jimm Smedley. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at the funeral home, where there will be an Elks service at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a local charity of choice.

He lived His Life His Way!!!!
