Rufus  FrancisRufus Francis - 1921-2008

Rufus Francis, 87, of Ashland died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, in Boyd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Francis was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Magoffin County, a son of the late James and Julia Risner Francis.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia E. Wells Francis; a daughter, Phyllis Copley; two brothers, Sylvester and Chester Francis; and three sisters, Rosa Allen, Lillian Risner and Dora Helton.

Mr. Francis was a clerk with C&O Railroad and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks

He is survived by a son-in-law, Ed Copley, of Catlettsburg; two daughters, Judy Meredith and her husband, Robert, of Catlettsburg, and Mary Green and her husband, Ron, of Ashland; grandchildren Robbie Meredith of Catlettsburg, Eddie Copley and his wife, Joni, of Catlettsburg, Matthew Green of Ashland, and Tamara Bell and her husband, Scott, of Las Vegas; and one great-grandchild, Gabriel Bell.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel with pastor Tom Swartzwelder officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to Alzheimers Association, Kentucky Chapter, 1065 Dove Run Road, Lexington, KY, 40502-3524.
