Gregory G. BrummittGregory G. Brummitt - 1943-2008

Gregory G. Brummitt, 65, of Ashland, departed this life on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Gregory was born to earthly parents, the late William Paul and Maude Hillman Brummitt on Oct. 12, 1943, in Herald, Va., and born again in Christ on Oct. 12, 1966.

Mr. Brummitt was a graduate of Virginia Tech University where he earned a B.S. degree in metallurgical engineering. He began his career as associate metallurgist in the metallurgical department at Armco Steel Co. in 1966 and after completing 35 years of service in Ashland, retired as senior operating engineer in process technology in the coating area of AK Steel in 2001. While at AK Steel, he was a member of Association of Iron and Steel Engineers and International Galvanizers Association where he received recognition in 1991 and 1992 for his work as co-author of papers on Deportment of Aluminum in Continuous Galvanizing Baths and Analysis and Control of Aluminum in Galvanizing Baths.

Greg joined the U.S. Army Reserve C Company, 478th Engineering Battalion in 1966 and completed his military duty as SPEC 5 in 1972.

Above all, Greg considered his commitment to the Lord of highest priority in life giving his service through Central Baptist Church and later Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church as Sunday School teacher, deacon, choir and Majesty Singers adult ensemble, nursing home and visitation ministries. He was an active member, president and speaker of Ashland Camp of Gideons International. His greatest desire was to be a good witness for the Lord and see people trust in Christ as he had done many years ago. He demonstrated this through his church and through the Gideon ministry in placing New Testaments and Bibles in the hands of fifth grade students, college students and in hospital and hotel rooms.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Sue Skeen and Betty Dugan and three brothers, Curtis, Jack and Kenneth Brummitt.

Mr. Brummitt is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Lou Litzenberger Brummitt; daughter and son-in-law, Charis and Johnathan Meade of Dayton, Ohio; a brother and sister-in-law, Randall and Jo Brummitt of Franklin, Tenn.; and a special niece, Debbie Crabtree (Calvin) of Clintwood, Va.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 at Rose Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Ronnie Mayes officiating. Pallbearers will be Greg White, Shane Wagner, Jim Bolen, Geoff Riffe, Keith Osborne, and Dr. David Pinkston. Honorary pallbearers will be French Maggard, George Boyd, Mike Williams, Danny Blanton, Joel Hopkins and James Geyer.

The family will receive friends at the church from 11 a.m. till service time on Friday. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Memorial gifts may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 188, Ashland, KY 41105-0188.

Online condolences may be made to www.steenfuneralhomes. com.

Arrangements are under the direction of Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland.

I am so sorry to hear of Greg's untimely death. We were wonderful playmates as children. He was a little younger than I, but it was never an issue. He was kind, gentle and a most loving cousin. I will remember Mary Lou, Charis and family in my prayers. God Bless all his family and loved ones. Jan

It was my privilege to be Greg's pastor from 1995-2002. He was a wonderful man of GOD. He demonstrated in both attitude and action the heart of a servant. He has no agenda except to know and do the will of GOD. My family and I will be praying for Mary Lou and her family.

Dear Mary Lou, We were truly surprised to hear of the homegoing of Greg. It was always a great pleasure to fellowship in your home, mostly during the holiday seasons. We have fond memories. We always felt his prayer and support while working at Rose Hill. His quiet leadership was a testimony to the grace of God. We trust that God will encourage your heart knowing that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." If you ever want to visit the Lake Cumberland area, we would welcome you into our home. Keep in contact. Louise and Keith

We got to know Brother Greg through the Gideons being members of the Carter County Camp. As Brothers in Christ and as Gideons Greg and I became great friends and He was a great inspiration to myself as I witnessed His walk with Christ and the witness His life showed. Greg will truly be missed among His Gideon Brothers in Christ and all those that came to know Him. Our prayers will always be with the family.
