
Jack H. Carpenter - 1935-2009
Jack H. Carpenter, 73, of Ashland, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009.
He was born April 28, 1935, in Leander, a son of the late Charles and Grace May Carpenter. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Carpenter and Juanita Carpenter Sammons.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 48 years, Loretta Bayes Carpenter; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Michelle Carpenter of Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister, Ruth Clay of Paintsville; a sister-in-law, Peggy Butcher of Catlettsburg; nieces Donna Sammons Carpenter and Janie Butcher; nephews David and John Sammons and Doug Clay; and several special great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mr. Carpenter was a veteran and retired from CSX Transportation as a railway car inspector. In addition, he and his wife owned Good News Book Shop in Ashland for 22 years. He was a devoted husband and father and a member of Scott Depot Christ Fellowship.
The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Dr. Rodney L. Taylor and the Rev. Larry Hammett. Entombment will be in Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.
