Wilma  DickensWilma Dolores Dickens - 1926-2009

Wilma Dolores Dickens, 82, of Russell, formerly of Ashland, departed this life on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, in Kingsbrook Lifecare Center.

She was born Nov. 13, 1926, in Wurtland, Ky., the daughter of the late Fred and Ada Heaberlin Compston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Dickens, whom she was married to for 56 years. Also preceding her was a son, David Wayne and a brother, Delbert Compston, formerly of Tiffin, Ohio.

As a registered nurse, she worked many years in the medical profession, starting her career in the OB-GYN department at Kings Daughters Hospital. She attended the Crum Chapel in Ashland and First Baptist Church in Haines City, Fla., and was formerly a member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Carl E. and Tina Dickens of Norwalk, Conn., and Keith A. and Ginger Dickens of Reseda, Calif.; a brother, Frederick G. Compston of Mechanicsville, Va.; two sisters, Berna Dean Compston of Ashland and Reva Ruthruff of Covington, Ky.; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to honor Mrs. Dickens will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at Rose Hill Mausoleum Chapel in Ashland with Pastor Bill Smith officiating. Following the service, she along with her late husbands ashes, will be interred together at Rose Hill Burial Park.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the Mausoleum Chapel.

It was a pleasure to have known Wilma. She had the cutest laugh. We will miss her greatly. I'm so sorry for your loss.
