James P. Davis - 1938-2009

James P. Davis, age 70, of Ashland, Ky., died Monday afternoon, June 1, 2009 in Community Hospice Care Center.

He was born June 15, 1938, in Flat Gap, Ky., a son of the late P.V. and Stella Cantrell Davis.

He was retired with more than 30 years of service from Ashland Oil Inc. as an asphalt tech sales representative. He was an Army National Guard veteran, a member of First United Methodist Church in Ashland, a 1955 graduate of Boyd County High School and earned his bachelors in business administration from Morehead University.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Keren Phillips Davis of Ashland; a daughter, Amy Smith and husband, David of Ashland; and a sister, Berta Hensley and husband, Lawrence of Versailles, Ky.

A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum by Chaplain Jimm Smedley.

Entombment will follow in Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, June 3, 2009, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland.

Contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.

Dear Karen and Amy, I am so sorry about the passing of Jim. I worked with Jim for many years and always thought a lot of him. He loved you all so much and was always talking about both of you. He was a proud family man. You are in my prayers and thoughts during this difficult time.
