
Phillip Alan Salyer (1953-2009)
Phillip Alan Salyer, 55, of Ashland, died Monday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born Sept. 23, 1953, in Ashland, son of the late Claude B. "Buddy" and Doris Wahneitta Scott Salyer. He was the husband of Tamra Beard Salyer, who survives.
He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Ashland and a 1971 graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School. He graduated with a bachelor's in business management from Ohio University. He was a member of the Ashland Tomcat Booster Club and the Ashland Optimist Club, was director of the Junior Football League and served on numerous youth committees. He was retired from Ashland Oil as manager of the payroll department.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bradley Scott (Rachel) Salyer of Georgetown, Ky., and James Dustin Salyer of Huntington; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kelly Jo (Michael) Hoormann of Nashville, Tenn., and Chelsea Virginia Salyer of Lexington; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Greg (Cheryl) Salyer and Brian (Sherry) Salyer, all of Ashland.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by Dr. Steve Ruby. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Lambert, Ryne Salyer, Wes Salyer, Chad Salyer, Scott Sterling, David "Dirk" Payne, Rocky Gibbs, Richard "Dickie" Martin, Steve Gilmore, Steve Stewart and all members of the Ashland Optimist Club.
The family requests contributions to the Ashland Tomcat Baseball Field, which Phil and his brothers helped build in memory of their father, P.O. Box 212, Ashland, KY 41105-0212 or the Community Hospice Care Center, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
