
Catherine Geraldine Jerri Hobbs Thompson - 1928-2009
Catherine Geraldine Jerri Hobbs Thompson, 80, of Ashland, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mrs. Hobbs was born Aug. 17, 1928, in Stephensburg, a daughter of Virgil and Frankie Morrison Hobbs, both deceased.
She also was preceded in death by her husband, Walker Tommy Thompson, and a cousin, Evelyn Jackey of Elizabethtown.
Mrs. Hobbs came to the Ashland area in 1952 as the wife of Walker Tommy Thompson. Mr. Thompson establised Liquid Transporters Inc. in this area at that time, and Mrs. thompson was very active in the business. Thirteen years later, they established a family-owned company, Boyd Service Inc., and she served as vice president and office manager until her retirement in 1991.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ashland and was a board member of the American Cancer Society for many years and was the coordinator of the Reach to Recovery program and won the award of excellence for her work. She was a volunteer at Kings Daughters Medical Center and also was a member of MAC Travel Club and a member of the Plaza Hotel Wednesday Bridge group and was a Kentucky Colonel.
She is survived by cousins Dennis Klattenberg and his wife, Jana, of Ashland, and George A. Davis of Cecelia; and a very close niece, Grettle Smith of Danville.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Manakee Funeral Home, 2098 Leitchfield Road, Elizabethtown, Ky, 42701. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens in Elizabethtown.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel.
