
William Nelson Moore - 1928-2009
William Nelson Moore, 80, of Ashland, Ky., died Aug. 16, 2009, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility.
He was born Dec. 14, 1928, in Ashland, a son of the late Harry S. Moore Sr. and Anna N. Anderson Moore and a loving stepmother, the late Jean Lama Moore.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harry S. Moore Jr. (Doreen).
He worked for AK Steel Corp. for 391/2 years and retired in 1992 as general foreman at the Amanda Blast Furnace. He was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, where he served as senior warden, junior warden and vestry member.
His fraternal record included being an honorary life member of BPO Elks Lodge for 55 years. He graduated from Huntington High School and Marshall University with a degree in engineering. He was a member and past president of the Armco Management Club, was a Kentucky colonel, a member of Poage Lodge 325, F&AM, a Master Mason and member of Apperson Chapter 81, Ashland Commandry 28, Everett Council 65 and Covington Scottish Rite of Free Masonry with a 32nd degree.
He was an El Hasa Shriner, where he served as temple chaplain for several years, was an El Hasa Oriental band member, an El Hasa directors staff member, an El Hasa Hillbilly Clan No. 1 member, an El Hasa Shriners Legion of Honor life member and a member of Big Sandy Court 172, the Royal Order of Jesters and El Mexa Teocalli 98 Order of Quetzalcoatl.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Betty Lou Delaney Moore of Ashland; daughters Carla Ann Mulvaney (Brent) of Versailles, Ky., and Catherine Jayne Elsea (David) of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren Meghan Frances Mulvaney, John William Mulvaney and Meredith Ann Elsea; and a special niece, Lynn Cohen. and her husband, Barry.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at Calvary Episcopal Church by the Rev. Mann Valentine VI. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 18, 2009, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland. An Elks service will be at 7 p.m., followed by a Scottish Rite & Masonic Service.
