Dorothea Kurtzhalz FearingDorothea Kurtzhalz Fearing died Thursday, October 1 at 7:35 AM. Death came peacefully in the presence of her loving family. Born on September 5, 1913 she led a full and active life devoted to her family and her faith.

She is survived by her three sisters, Erna, Leslie and Ann, her three children, Oliver Fearing (Gaye) of Huntington, WV, Mary Hills (Richard) of Port Orange, FL, Melissa Hasbrouck (Paul) of Lawrenceville, NJ and one step daughter, Kathleen Fearing of West Chester, OH. She has 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 48 years, Dr. Oliver H. Fearing.

A resident of Ashland, KY for over 75 years, she was involved in church and community activities. A member of First Presbyterian Church she was an elder, soprano soloist in the choir, leader of many committees including Worship and Hospitality and served on several pastoral search committees. For many years she delivered Meals on Wheels.

A lover of music and the arts she was a member of the Three Arts Club and served on the Ashland Community Concerts Board.

Following her husband's retirement they enjoyed over 200,000 miles of traveling in their RV, Melodie. Her interests included sewing, needlework, reading and playing Bridge.

After moving to Florida she lived with her daughter and son-in-law Mary and Rev. Richard L. Hills and joined the Port Orange Presbyterian Church. Following Richard's retirement she and the family became active in the Westminster By the Sea Presbyterian Church.

During her last year she lived at Sterling House in Port Orange where she made many friends among the residents and staff. Hospice caregivers helped her the last two weeks of her life.

There will be visitation at the Steen Funeral Home at Central Avenue, Ashland, KY, on Sunday, October 4th between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM.

Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Ashland KY on Monday, October 5th at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at Ashland Cemetery. At 1:00 PM there will be a luncheon for family and friends at the church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the music programs at First Presbyterian Church, Ashland, KY, Port Orange Presbyterian Church, Port Orange, FL or Westminster By the Sea Presbyterian Church, South Daytona Beach, FL.
