Ballard Belcher (1936-2009)
Ballard Belcher, 73, of Flatwoods, Ky., went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Dec. 20, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. He was born June 26, 1936, in Logan County, W.Va., a son of the late Ballard and Dorothy Toler Belcher Walden.
He was a retired barber and a licensed minister with the Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of the Wurtland Church of the Nazarene and a U.S. Army veteran. He also enjoyed working at the skating rink in Camden Park.
Ballard spent his last days on earth trying to bring a smile to everyone he met. He spoke to each and every individual about the condition of their soul and asked them if they were saved and offered a prayer for God to save them. He spoke of all the sad faces around him and did his best to encourage each person to smile, because of the joy and happiness that God brings us.
Left behind are Sheila Donahue Belcher, his loving wife of 33 years; a half brother, Robert Walden (Mary) of Mann, W.Va.; a half sister, Donna Ward of Binghamton, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews; one very special friend, Cullie Wheeler and a loving church family. Also preceding him in death are one brother, Ernest Belcher of Malory, W.Va.; and one sister, Regina Belcher Mills of Mann.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at Wurtland Church of the Nazarene on Fulton Avenue with Pastor Scott Hill and Brother James A. Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Visitation will be at the church from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday.
