My condolences to the Ledford family. When Loren was in HS I was the basketball coach of district rival Lawrence Co. I remember him as a great competitor with wonderful sportmanship. A few years ago I had the opportunity to renew our acquaintence on the sidelines of a Prestonsburg-Ashland football game at Blackcat stadium. I was on the Tomcat sideline lining up for a ceremony that required me to walk my daughter out onto the field. I recognized Dr. Ledford immediately and introduced myself. After we visited I had the pleasure of tossing a few TD passes to his son who was around 5-6 years old at the time and was decked out in full uniform (Tomcat maroon of course).

Ms. Ledford, I want to express my deepest sympathies to you. I was a student of yours at Coles and I remember Loren from the trips to New Orleans and Quebec. I just left Tampa from a visit with Laura Wilson over the holidays and we both spoke of you fondly and laughed about the way you would tweek our ears.We were both shocked and saddened for your loss. I always enjoyed you and Loren and I will keep you and your family in my prayers! Michele McKenzie Bobbitt

Our deepest sympathies go out to the entire Ledford family. Dr. Ledford was both my daughter's dr as well as Tom's. We didn't know for very long but we enjoyed the brief time we did spend with him and the care he took of both my husband and daughter (she is medical director at KDMC). You are all in our prayers. As a pharmaceutical representative,I had the honor and privledge to call upon Dr. Ledford. While waiting to see Dr. Ledford, I would visit with his patients and listen as they shared stories of their appreciation for his caring, compassionate ways. His office was so enjoyable to visit, filled with pictures of his beloved family and keepsakes shared by the many lives he touched. When I was called to his office for my visit I was always greeted with a huge smile and a "GO TOMCATS" Dr. Ledford knowing I was a Russell grad! He allowed me some redemption because I share Georgetown College as my alma mater with his wife Amy. Our conversations always included Amy, Bethany, and Preston, Dr. Ledford would beam with overwhelming love and pride. I was left his office uplifted. I had heard the enduring term "gentle giant" and now I have had the honor to have known one!

Shock doesn't begin to explain what I felt when I found out today that Loren had died. I hadn't seen him much over the years, but when I would run into him at the mall or out and about, he would be a lot of fun to talk to. It always made me happy when I passed by the Dr. office and saw his name on the sign. My prayers are with you Mrs. Ledford and the rest of Loren's family.

Growing up I remember playing against Loren in grade school basketball(Condit) and Little League baseball(Orioles) and he was a great competitor, playing against him. As we grew older we became teammates starting in junior high school basketball and up through senior high school I also got the opportunity to become good friends with Loren and we developed a friendship, because of the common bond of playing sports and the closeness of a teammate. Having been away from the area for a while,I truly wish I had gotten to run into him more since returning. My deepest, deepest sympathies to his family, his mother Janice, and everyone who was close to Loren. You will be missed my friend class of 1985 always. My prayers will be with you!

My heart breaks for you and your family. I have also mourned with the passing of your beloved husband, father and son. He has been a part of our family for over 10 years as a caring doctor and friend. It is a part that won't soon be erased. I wish there was something I could personally do to help ease your pain through this difficult time. However, I know that only through prayer and time will the pain ease. Please take comfort knowing the many lives he touched through his 42 years. My family and I will continue to go to Ledford's Family Practice. We know that you will have a doctor establish the same caring ways of conducting the practice as did Dr. Ledford. ( He alsways started our visit by saying, " How is my favorite author today?")

My sincere condolences to this family. I did not know Dr. Ledford but I knew his dad. Many years ago, Bill Jim's family lived next door to us on Lock Ave. in Louisa. They were a wonderful family in the eyes of a small girl. Several years ago I had the opportunity to see Bill when he made a visit to the Lawrence Co. Board office and I know he often stopped to see my mother when he was in Louisa. I recently lost my husband suddenly so I know what you all are going through. God Bless.

I played basketball against Loren in high school (Russell) and he was a fierce, but clean, competitor. I also got the opportunity to play "with" Loren on several rec league teams after high school, and we developed a friendship, along with Jerry Johnson, because of the common bond of sports. Loren would always give his best on the court, and I understand he did the same in life...which did not surprise me. I remember fondly his smile and his infectious laugh, which I know have touched many people over the years. I send my deepest sympathies to Amy and the children, Janice, and everyone who was close to Loren. My prayers will be with you!

I was a patient of Loren's for almost the entire time he was practicing in Ashland. Before that, he was my mother's doctor. I started seeing him because I appreciated the time, care, and compassion he gave my mother. I experienced that same dedication and professionalism. I spoke with people across the area who were his patients; I never heard a negative word. His zest for life and the love he displayed for his family was more than evident in the environment of his office. The pictures that adorned the office walls of his wife and children were touching. Nevertheless, the grin that came across his face and pride that shown when he talked about his family spoke more than the pictures. Loren was the ultimate professional. While local celebrities called him their doctor, he treated everyone like they were Brandon Webb, Charlie Reliford or Greg Gibson. I knew went I was in his office there were two people who had were concerned for my health. I grew to appreciate his dedication to his profession and the empathy he exhibited. However, most of all I will miss the pat on the back, the handshake and the smile that always greeted me. Loren Ledford, he was my doctor, but he will always be my friend.

In so many ways, what a giant of a man and what a huge personality. I know Dr. Ledford from calling on him as a pharmaceutical rep, but came to really enjoy the time I got with him and the office. I was fortunate to always come away with new perspectives as well as additional appreciation for the different ways he touched so many people and contributed to their lives. I am happy to have known him and sad to miss him. My prayers and blessings are with his loved ones. Laura Kelly

Dear Amy, Preston, Bethany, and Mrs. Ledford, Words cannot express how shocked and so very saddened I am due tof the passing of Loren. I can't begin to say enough good things about Loren, and what he meant to our community. Everytime I saw him he was always the same friendly and courteous person that he has always been. As my physician I always knew that he was sincerly concerned about my well being, and taking care of whatever health problems I had at the time. As a matter of fact I had just seen Loren for an office visit on the Monday before Christmas. The community will never be able to replace the great doctor, community leader, and overall great guy that he was. My heart breaks for all of you, and I want you to know that you will all be in my prayers and thoughts.
