William Emmett Smith II - 1921-2010
William Emmett Smith II, 88, of Ashland, Ky., died March 19, 2010, at his residence.
He was born June 21, 1921, in Elmira, N.Y., a son of the late Leland Smith and Lena Roberts Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Fancher Smith in 1996; sons, William E. Smith and Richard E. Smith; and a brother, Gunner Smith.
He was a right of way agent for Tennessee Gas and owner and operator of Smith Trucking. He was of the Presbyterian faith and a WWII Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanie Bailey Smith; sons, Mark E. Smith of Bluffton, S.C., Scott E. (Lynn) Smith of Zanesville, Ohio, and David E. (Amy) Smith of Ashland; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Gene Pillow.
Family will receive friends at noon Thursday at the funeral home.
