William E. Bill Miller, 75, of Flatwoods, Ky., formerly of Sumner County, Tenn., died Wednesday morning, March 24, 2010, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

He was born July 31, 1934, in Ashland, a son of the late Cecil and Clara McGraw Miller.

In addition, he was preceded in death by brothers Ishmael Miller and Gary Miller and sisters Jean Dolen, Janice Menshouse and Nancy Haney.

He was the owner of Miller Homes and a builder in Sumner County, Tenn., for more than 40 years. He was an Army Korean War veteran. Bill was a very active member of the Old Union Church of Christ in Castilian Springs, Tenn., and Flatwoods Church of Christ in Flatwoods, Ky. He will long be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, and even during his last days he was still bringing comfort to others. While living in Tennessee, Bill remained an avid UK Wildcats fan. He loved fishing. Among others, his favorite lakes included Old Hickory Lake in Sumner County and Lake Fork in Texas. He was a self-taught artist and avid golfer. Seven months ago on the day of his diagnosis, he played 4 under par through the 15th hole during his last game at the Oaks Golf Course.

After three weeks of dating, he married his loving wife of 54 years, Linda Goodwin Miller of Flatwoods. Other survivors include a son, Dean Edward (Dawn Scyphers) Miller of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; daughters Connie Lynn Sirnio (Joe) Martinez of Fairfield, Calif., and Helen Catherine (Kenny) Sims of Goodlettsville; brothers Darrell Miller and Ricky Miller of Ashland; sisters Patricia Gail Hale, Brenda Dye and Vonnie Kellogg of Ashland; eight granddaughters, Shauna Sirnio, Courtney Sirnio Weber, Kelli Miller Smith, Misti Sims Gregory, Brittany Miller, Kayla Miller, Rachel Miller and Amanda Sirnio; five grandsons, Chad, Tom, Justin, Travis and Tony Sirnio; six great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by John M. Brown, minister. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, March 26, 2010, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101 or the NAMI Organization, 1101 Kermit Drive, Suite 605, Nashville, TN 37217-2126.

Linda and all, I'm so sorry to read of Bill's passing. I do remember that he was always smiling. He was a humble, self-made family man who seemed to have a good balance of family, work and hobbies. I had never heard of crappy or sauger fish (pronouced "feesh") until I met him. I always think of him when I hear a George Jones song, especially "A Good Year for the Roses." I had never heard George sing it, but remembered the words because Bill liked it. May God grant you peace during your time of sorrow. Kathey
