Clyde F. HolbrookClyde F. Holbrook, 96, of Ashland, Ky., died May 26, 2010, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

He was born Jan. 18, 1914, in Lawrence County, Ky., a son of the late Ernest and Grace Smith Holbrook.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Douglas Riffe Holbrook; a daughter, Diane Tweddell of Lancaster, Calif.; brothers Clifford Holbrook of Newport News, Va., and Charles Holbrook of Ashland; and sisters Ethel Ross of Newport News, Va., and SnoJo Baker of Lancaster, Calif.

He retired from Armco Steel Open Hearth in 1968. He was a member of Twin Lakes Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Surviving are a son, Clyde R. Holbrook and wife Shirley of Newport News, Va.; daughter Linda Brickey and husband Ralph of Ashland; grandchildren Rick and Lori Tweddell of Ashland, Keith and Terri Holbrook of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Beth and Dave Davis of Rush, Ky., Lisa Davis of Conway, S.C., Gina and John Bush of Ashland, Brett and Grace Holbrook of Stafford, Va., and Megan and Chris Koewler of Clarksville, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Brian and Becca Holbrook of Charlotte, N.C., Jason Holbrook of Fuguay-Varina, Maria Holbrook and JoJo Holbrook of Stafford, China Davis and Jesse Davis of Conway, S.C., C.J. Wamsley of Morehead, Ky., Catie Wamsley of Rush, Ky., Johnny Bush and Kyle Bush of Ashland, Craig and Danielle Tweddell of Louisville, Ky., Kristie and Joe Melvin of Ashland, Allison Davis of Houston, Texas, and Christopher Davis of Lexington, Ky.; great-great-grandchildren Brianna Melvin and Zoey Melvin of Ashland; and a special friend, Dixie Simms.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Dr. Ronnie Mayes and the Rev. Charles Stewart. Burial will be in Ross Cemetery.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101 or Rose Hill Baptist Church, 1001 Winslow Road, Ashland, KY 41102.
