
Helen Louise Collins Traugott, 81, of Ashland died Friday at Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility in Ashland. She was born Nov. 16, 1928, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Lillian Baer Collins. Her loving husband of 60 years, James Elwood "Freight Train" Traugott, preceded her in death in 2009. She was a member of Summit Missionary Baptist Church and she was a devoted homemaker.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Gary Richard Traugott; and a sister, Lois Rigney.
Survivors include one son, James Michael (Nadine) Traugott of Ashland; two daughters, Linda Traugott Porter and Tammy Traugott (Brett) Hall, all of Ashland; one sister, Phyllis Wheeler of Ashland; grandchildren, Melissa Porter (Scott) Pierce, Christopher Hall and Megan Hall, all of Ashland, and Aaron Hatfield of Mt. Holly, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Sydni and Nicholas Pierce of Ashland and Zachary Hatfield of Mt. Holly.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Steen Funeral Home, Central Avenue Chapel, with Pastor Kevin Meenach officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
