I went to school with Walter in Ashland, KY. Walter was an exemplary human being. He had compassion for others and was a contribution to us all. I wish him well in his journey onward and am sad he is no longer with us now.

I knew Walt while we were stationed together in Puerto Rico. I hadn't seen him since 1974, but he has often come to mind, especially when I hear songs he and I used to listen to together. A few weeks ago he came to mind again; something I saw, I don't remember what, triggered the memory. Oddly, I couldn't remember his last name. In the military, everybody calls each other by their last names, but not Walt and me. We called each other by our first names. Tonight, 15 Nov 2011, I finally remembered his surname, and googled him. I didn't think I would find anything, but his obituary was the first hit, and his picture here confirms it; I wish I could have seen him again. Box 367, Yucaipa, CA 92399

As a member of the not-so-Terrifics that backed him up when he sang Stand by Me at each reunion, I'm sorry he is gone. I've still got our pictures from those performances. I'm sure there will be 24 hour Karaoke where he has gone.
