
Charles Tom Thomas Fritz, 89, of Ashland, Ky., died Friday, July 23, 2010, in Kings Daughters Medical Center. He was born Aug. 10, 1920, in Greenup County, Ky., to the late John Thomas and Temperance Hannah Fritz. He was a teamster and heavy equipment operator and a WWII Army veteran. He served in Coastal Artillery, 106 Anti-Aircraft Battalion in France, Sicily, Italy and Africa Campaigns from 1941 to 1945. He was also a member of Heritage Freewill Baptist Church, Amvets and was a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 64 years, Sarah Click Fritz of Ashland; a daughter, Shirley McKenzie and husband Neal of Davison, Mich.; a son, Billy Thomas Fritz and wife Mary of Ashland; a brother, Dennis Fritz of Raceland; a sister, Charlene Harris of Russell, Ky.; grandchildren, Juanita McKenzie, Jody McKenzie, Tommy Fritz and Chris Fritz; and great-grandchildren, Damien, Michael, Sarina, Taylor and Hailey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Curt, Hubert, Leonard and Paul Fritz; and two sisters, Artie and Lorrine.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Steen Funeral Home - 13th Street Chapel in Ashland by Brother Ed Cook and Brother Jim Mitchell. Burial will be in Kirby Flats in Boyd County with military rites by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel.
