Robert J. Hammond, 74, of Ashland, Ky., died Nov. 7, 2010, in Kings Daughters Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 12, 1936, in Crown, W.Va., a son of the late Joe Ray Hammond and Martha Cooksey Hammond.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Marvin Hammond and James R. Hammond.
He was superintendent of water distribution for the city of Ashland, master sergeant of the Air National Guard and of the Christian faith. He was a member of Hampton Lodge 235, a 32nd-degree Mason and member of the Scottish rite. He was retired from 130th Air National Guard and was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association. After his retirement, he loved spending time with his friends at Steen Cannons.
Surviving are his loving wife of 52 years, Garnet Fannin Hammond of Ashland. They were married on Feb. 28, 1958, in Ashland. He is also survived by special cousins Woody Woods, Larry E. Woods and Elveda Woods Womack and several special nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Brent Hutchinson and Robert Kelly. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 9, 2010, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Brian Hutchinson, Doug Hutchinson, Chad Johnson, David Boggs, Kenny Hammond and Homer Fannin.
