1929 - 2011

Robert Lee"Bob" Kimbrell, 81, of Ashland made his final farewell on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 in Kings Daughters Medical Center.

Bob was born Sept. 17, 1929, in Ashland, a son of the late J.L. "Mike" and Mary Ellen Kimbrell. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Beneva, in 2000.

Bob was a 1946 graduate of Russell High School and the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in 1952. After graduating, he returned to serve the Ashland community as a pharmacist, working at a number of local businesses. Most notably, Bob worked at Meyers Pharmacy, where he was co-owner with Bill Clinger and later with Bill Earwood, from 1969-1992. Bob retired in 1992 but continued to work part-time at Home Care Pharmacy until his death. He was an active member of the UK Alumni Association, Kentucky Pharmacists Association, South Ashland Lions Club, Bellefonte Country Club and First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; a son, Mike Kimbrell and wife Molly of Lexington; daughters, Jolinda Conley and husband Steve of Ashland, Julie Griffin of Lexington, and Jane Dixon and husband Andy of Ashland; and nine grandchildren, Shannon Winke and husband Jon of Columbus, Ohio, Justin Conley of Raleigh, N.C., Megan Conley of Louisville, Lee Kimbrell, Stephen Kimbrell and Kristen Griffin of Lexington, Matthew Dixon of Beaufort, S.C., and Caleb Dixon and Jacob Dixon of Ashland.

Bob was an avid UK Wildcats and Ashland Tomcats sports fan, attending many football and basketball games throughout his life. He also greatly enjoyed playing golf and volunteering his time helping the First United Methodist Church Food Pantry. Bob loved spending as much time as possible with his family and friends and was a dedicated follower of his grandchildrens (who affectionately referred to him as "Bob-Bob") involvement in sports, equestrian, cheerleading and band. Bob was a fine citizen of Ashland, lived an honorable life, and was a pleasure to spend time with. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY, 41101 or to the First United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 1811 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY, 41101.
