Rosamond Griggs York, 92, of Ashland, died Sunday morning, Feb. 20, 2011, in Kingsbrook Life Care Center.
She was born July 3, 1918, in Bath County, a daughter of the late Walter L. and Elizabeth Pergram Griggs.
She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Hurbert York, on April 8, 2003, three brothers and five sisters.
She was a devoted homemaker and a loving mother. She was a 55-year member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she was active in all church activities, and the Paramount Arts Women's Auxiliary. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a member of the Cardinal Craft Club, the Ashland Senior Center and the Red Hat Society.
Surviving are a son, Bruce York and wife Joanne of Ashland; a daughter, Karen Cross of Ashland; four grandchildren, Alan York and wife Amy of Tyler, Texas, and Susan Maynard and husband Matthew, Laura York and Amy Cross, all of Ashland; and four great-grandchildren, Austin Cross, Dylan Cross and Kalynn Rose Cross, all of Ashland, and Sarah Christine York of Tyler.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Ike Nicholson. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at the funeral home.
