William Edward Sturgill, 85, of Cannonsburg, died Friday, March 4, 2011, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland after an extended illness.
He was born on June 25, 1925, in Boyd County, to the late Green and Rosa Thornsbury Sturgill.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Moore Sturgill of Cannonsburg; a daughter, Gwen (Bob) Minerich of Richmond; a son, Steve (Janice) Sturgill of Catlettsburg; children by marriage Charles (BJ) Adkins of Ashland and Toni Hiller of Edgewater, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Elmo Sturgill andRalph Sturgill.
He was a member of Unity Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school, was co-owner of Ashland Electric Co. and was a U.S.Navy World War IIveteran.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Harold Cathey. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Friends may call after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
