Robert L. Moore Sr., age 87, of Ashland, passed away Thursday morning, May 19, 2011 in King's Daughters Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
He was born March 3, 1924, in Coalton, a son of the late Andrew "Coon" and Essie Whitley Moore. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Timothy K. Moore Jr.; seven brothers, Frank, Cecil, Ben, Kelly, Evert, Charles and Chester Moore; and four sisters, Ina Stephenson, Kathleen Vance, Irene Henderickson and Grace Norris.
Bob was retired from the Operating Engineering Local Union No.181 in Ashland. He was a 54-year member of Straight Creek Nazarene Church, where he had served as Sunday school superintendent, board member and shared many special musical selections with his church family. More than anything else, Bob was a devoted family man, who will long be remembered for his kind, gentle spirit and willingness to help anyone in need.
Surviving are his adoring wife of 66 years, Myrtle Gullett Moore of Ashland; two sons, Robert L. Moore Jr. and wife Sandra and Timothy K. Moore, all of Ashland; daughters, Yvonna Sue Porter and husband Winford and Kathy Lynn Hamilton and husband Kenneth, all of Ashland; grandchildren, David Baldridge, Jeff Porter, Travis Moore, Shawn Hamilton, Brad Hamilton & Jason Moore; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Gary Salyers and the Rev. Harold Brown. Burial will follow in Coalton Cemetery.
