Ruth Ersula Jennings Franklin was born on September 30, 1920 in Vidaila, Ga to the late Robert and Mary Jennings. She departed this life on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 7:05 AM at the age of 90.
Ruth was educated in the Augusta, Ga School System. She completed two years at Paine College in Augusta, Ga. After her marriage to Melvin Goff Franklin, they moved to his hometown Ashland, KY where their two daughters, Martina and Pat were born.
Ruth joined St. James AME church during the early 1950s. During that time she became active in many organizations: Stewardess Board, Church Choir, Trustee Board and the Kitchen Ministry.
Ms Ruth, (as she was lovingly called by her many friends) was a kind and friendly person who was always willing to help others. Ruth enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables, cooking and baking, tending flowers in her yard, working crosswords puzzles, shopping for bargains, and talking on the phone to her dear friends and family.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Martina Williams of College Park, Ga and Patricia Lottier of Roswell, Ga; a brother, Warren Jennings of Augusta Ga (the last of 12 siblings of Robert and Mary); granddaughter, Tonya Boddie (Jeffery) of Mason, Ohio; grandsons Todd Griffin of Baton Rouge, LA; Christopher Lottier of Atlanta, Ga; Dr. Shawn Lottier of Roswell, Ga and Bobby Williams, Jr. of Atlanta, Ga; two great grandchildren, Daniel and Sasha Boddie of Mason Ohio, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 AM Friday, June 24, 2011 at St. James AME Church in Ashland. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel.
