1931 - 2011

Jarrell "J.D." Welch went to be with his Heavenly Father on June 28, 2011. He was born November 8, 1931, son of the late Thomas T. and Marguerite Schmauch Welch. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Alice Jane Darby Welch and brother Larry Welch. Mr. Welch was a long-time member of Unity Baptist Church. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1949, attended Ashland Junior College and graduated from Marshall College (University). He was a Veteran of the Korean War and was retired from Armco/AK Steel. He was an associate member of McGregor Baptist Church in Ft. Myers, FL. where he taught a Life Group class for several years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Barber Montague Welch, a daughter, Mary Alice Cunningham of St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada; a son, Thomas Earl (Teresa) Welch of Naples, FL. A sister Rae Jean Adkins of Ashland; four grandchildren, Rob Hicks of Richmond, Ky.. Steve (Cathy) Hicks of Ashland, Ky., Kyle Welch of Chattanooga, TN., Lauren Welch of Naples, FL. And three great grandchildren, Sam, Sarah and Molly Hicks of Ashland, Ky. one step-son Roland Montague, one step-granddaughter, Tiffany(Patrick) Blevins and two Step-Great Granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Unity Baptist Church and will be officiated by Dr. Floyd Paris. Interment will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6-8 PM Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alice Welch Memorial Scholarship Fund at Unity Baptist Church, 2320 29th Street, Ashland, Ky. 41101 or to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Avenue, Ashland, Kentucky 41101.
