1925 - 2011

Jewel AlfredaStambaugh, 86, of Westwood, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday afternoon, July 5, 2011, in Jo Lin Health Care Center in Ironton, Ohio.

She was born March 5, 1925, in Chelyan, W.Va., a daughter of the late George Arthur Hicks and Hattie Pearl Short Hicks VanDyke.

She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Virgil Stambaugh, in 2002; a grandchild, Leslie Williams; a brother, Harold; and three sisters, Ruby, Betty and Nora.

She was a devoted homemaker and a member of Westwood Enterprise Baptist Church.

Alfreda was a precious beloved mother and grandmother who will long be remembered for her sweet, kind, gentle spirit.

Surviving are sons James Larry Stambaugh of Ashland, Thomas Alan (Deana) Stambaugh of Ironton, Danny Ray (Nancy) Stambaugh of Ashland and Leslie Monroe (Debbie) Stambaugh of Ironton; daughters Velma Parker of Frankfort, Janette (Steve) Gilreath of King, N.C., and Deborah Hughes and Paula (Mike) Bocook, both of Ashland; 16 grandchildren, Tim Parker, Alan (Heather) Parker, Alfreda Marie Parker, Becky Hobbs, RaAlen (Kerri) Stambaugh, Teri (Toni) Thomas, Doug (Christy) Stambaugh, Angela (Sean) Bailey, Melissa (Andy) Kuntz, Shawn (Shana) VanHoose, Jason VanHoose, Chuck (Tierney) McKnight, Trish (Robert) Smith, Brian McKnight, Eddie (Pam) Williams, Jim (Lisa) Grounds, Amy (Joe) Speaks and Mark Palmer; 41 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2011, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Ed Cook. Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 7, 2011, at the funeral home.

Contributions are suggested to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, KY 40502.
