Maxine Ellington Cook, 87, of Bellefonte passed away October 26th at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland. She was born January 27, 1924 in Westwood, Ashland, Kentucky, the daughter of the late James and Nannie Perry Ellington. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert H. Cook Sr., brothers Lorice and Lester Ellington, sisters Lenora Cook, Leta Newsome, Lucy Cook and Ola Williams.
She grew up in Westwood, attended Fairview Schools and graduated from Ashland High School in 1942. During WWII, she worked at the draft board and Armco Steel in timekeeping. On March 10, 1945 she married Robert H. Cook, Sr. who served in the US Navy in the Pacific throughout the war. She was a homemaker and loving mother and wife. During her later years, she worked at the C.H. Parsons Co. and volunteered at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
She is survived by her son, Robert H. Cook, Jr., his wife Barbara J.Cook, her granddaughter, Andrea Sansom (spouse Keith Sansom), her grandson Adam Cook (spouse Allison Cook), her brother Ed Ellington, and a host of loving relatives and friends.
She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 29th at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel officiated by Reverend Michael McAlister. Entombment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Friday evening at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 P.M.
