Edwin F. Conley, 80, of Ashland, a good, beloved and respected man of the community, passed away Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born Nov. 3, 1931, in Ashland, to the late Edwin F. Sr. and Opal Prose Conley.
He was founder of the 201st Kentucky National Guard Volleyball Tournament and also coached both boys and girls teams. He was a graduate of Ashland High School and Ashland Community College. He was a veteran of the Kentucky National Guard and was command sergeant major of the 202nd Army Band and 201st Engineering Batallion of the Kentucky National Guard. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Ashand and coached both boys and girls in the church basketball league. He owned and managed rental properties in the Ashland area and was a civil service employee of the Kentucky National Guard.
His survivors include his wife, Teddy Stanley Conley of Ashland; a son, E. Brian Conley and wife Anna of Ashland; a daughter, Teresa Conley Cassity of Ashland; sisters Barsha Conley Thompson and husband Paul of Dale City, Va., and Deloris Conley Bowman and husband Daniel of North Carolina; and his beloved grandchildren, Joshua Conley and Austin Cassity. He is also survived by his loving dogs, Tootsie and Dixie, who gave him great pleasure.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Phillip M. Conley, and two sisters, Marlene Zawol and Sandy Gentry.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church in Ashland by the Rev. Garrett Bugg and the Rev. Jennifer Johnson. The eulogy will be by Roger McCaleb.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland and after noon Wednesday at the church.
