Doris Layne Rahlmann, 89, of Ashland, passed away Saturday morning, Feb. 25, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born Jan. 16, 1923, in Louisa, to the late William Elgin and Alma Castle Layne.
She retired from the Greenup County Board of Education, where she had taught the third grade at Wurtland Elementary for 19 years.
She was a graduate of Boyd County High School. She graduated with a bachelors from Marshall University and a masters from Morehead State University. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ashland for more than 60 years. She was also a member of the Greenup County Retired Teachers Association, Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and a Kentucky colonel.
She was preceded in death, along with her parents, by her husband, Frederick William Rahlmann in 2009, a daughter, Sharon Joyce Rahlmann, and a brother, Dwight Layne.
Her survivors include two sons, Fred Rahlmann and his wife Sherry of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Stephen Rahlmann and his wife Wanda of Louisville; a daughter, Linda Keller and husband Rod of Huntington, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Alan Rahlmann and wife Morgan of Cincinnati, Jennifer Rahlmann of Cincinnati, Jason Keller and wife Betsy of Flemingsburg, Matt Keller and wife Edith of Wahaiwa, Hawaii, and Jessica Rahlmann of Louisville; and three great-grandchildren, Melanie Rahlmann, Wyatt Keller and Kendra Surratt.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at the funeral home.
