Betty Burnette, 88, of Ashland, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 9, 2012.
Betty was born on May 29, 1923, to the late Lucy Lakin and George P. Shannon.
She graduated from Thomas R. Brown High School and Ashland Business College. She was a member of South Ashland United Methodist Church for more than 55 years. In 1959, Betty and her late husband, Frank R. Burnette, started Ashland Office Supply, where she continued to work. She was formerly a member of the Altrusa Club and the Red Hats Society.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Betty was preceded in death by a brother, George Sam Shannon.
Survivors include her sons, Ronald Burnette and wife Becky of Hazard, Thomas Burnette and wife Ann of Ashland and Dr. John Burnette of Louisville, a daughter, Jane Zimmer and husband Hal of Ashland; five sisters, Alma Preston, Pauline Hunt (Tom), Jean Asher, Ann Bryan (Ronald) and Margaret Heaberlin (Hollice); and seven grandchildren, Brent Burnette, Amy Bray, Ashley Thurmond, Shannon Gibbs, Brad Burnette, Cassie Adams and Rachel Zimmer. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland with the Rev. Lance Campbell officiating. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Betty was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
