Marquita Joan Pontius Chadwick, 69, of Mt. Juliet, TN, formerly of Ashland, died Sunday, April 15, 2012 in Marshfield, Wisconsin. She also resided in Louisville, KY and Hartford City, IN. She was born September 24, 1942 in Hartford City, Indiana, a daughter of the late Ralph Waldamar and Vera May Scofield Pontius. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Byron Chadwick, of Ashland, KY in 1984.
Marquita was a member of the Ascension Lutheran Church in Louisville, KY, former president of the Paramount Womens Association and a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. She was a 1963 graduate of the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing and received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Louisville in 1992. She was a registered nurse with 42 years of service.
Survivors include a son, James Byron Chadwick and wife Eileen Topolski Chadwick of Orlando, FL, daughters, Sondra Leigh Chadwick of Mt. Juliet, TN, Cathryn Lynn Chadwick, MD and husband Robert Alan Samples of Marshfield, WI, grandchildren, Mary Beth Chadwick, Colin Michael Chadwick, Cheyenne Nokomis Samples, Willow Grace Samples, Robert Garon Samples, and Lark Lillianna Samples; brothers, Kim A. Pontius and wife Ruth, of Hartford City, IN, Lynn M. Pontius and wife Marian of Otis Orchard, WA, Kevin L. Pontius and wife Marilyn of Mountain View, CA and Kenton M. Pontius and wife Connie of Titusville, FL, and sister-in-law Beth Chadwick Speck of Somerset, KY.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue with Pastor Paul Hegele officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashland Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be Monday from 12 Noon till 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jim Chadwick, Steve Pontius, John Pontius, Colin Chadwick, Wayne Pontius and Robert Samples.
