Elmer Ray Brown, 95, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Menifee County, to the late Willie and Lily Culbertson Brown. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Alma Hill Brown, in 2001; a son, Donnie Ray Brown; and brothers Ernest and Glen Brown.
Elmer retired as an outside salesman for Ben Williamson with 45 years of service. When he was young, he was the assistant pastor of Gospel Assemblies and was an evangelist. He also owned and operated Browns Real Estate and was a member of Gospel Temple Church.
He is survived by a son, Roger Brown (Wilma) of Ashland; daughters Nita McDowell (John) and Joy Ferguson (Chandis), both of Ashland; a brother, Edison Brown (Wanda) of Dayton, Ohio; sisters Ada Smith of Lexington and Larlie Kilburn of Dayton; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was a loving father and granddaddy and will be sadly missed.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by Brother Larry Riley and Brother J.R. Ferguson. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
