Norman Wallace Addington, 87, of Catlettsburg, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, in Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Addington was born April 30, 1927, in Wise, Va., a son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Nora Hopkins Addington. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, John Michael Haughton; a sister, Pauline Addington; and brothers Paul, Ralph and Arthur Addington.
Mr. Addington was of the Baptist faith and was very active with the Poage Masonic Lodge No. 325 in the 1980s. He was a Kentucky colonel.
Mr. Addington served his country proudly during World War II with the U.S. Army and retired from the Kentucky State Police as a license examiner in Boyd, Greenup and Elliott counties.
Survivors include his wife, Nola Campbell Addington of Catlettsburg; a son, Wallace Michael Addington of Payson, Ariz.; a daughter, Sandra K. Haughton and husband John of Bellefonte; a brother, Harold Addington and wife Mabel of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren Matthew Drury Haughton of Lexington, Bryson Addington of Scottsdale, Ariz., Kayla Addington Tutay and husband Jason of Payson and Phoenix Addington of Scottsdale; a great-granddaughter, Gabriella Mongalo; and a host of extended family and friends.
Norman was a loving husband to his wife and a wonderful father to his children. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather to his grandchildren, whom he loved very much.
The funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2014, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland. Kentucky State Police Chaplain David Norris will officiate, along with members from the KSP Honor Guard. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Visitation will be after noon Monday at the funeral home.
