Bobby Joe Hammond, 56, of Ashland, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Hammond was born June 22, 1945, in Louisa, Ky., a son of Brooke Fields Hammond of Shiloh, Ohio and the late George Hammond.
He was a registered nurse and nursing supervisor at King's Daughters Medical Center for 37 years.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving as a U.S. Army sergeant, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
In addition to his mother, he is also survived by a daughter, Rachel Jones and son-in-law, Nick Jones of Ashland; eight brothers, Glen Hammond of Mansfield, Ohio; Kenneth Hammond, Rick Hammond, John Hammond, George Hammond and Kevin Hammond, all of Shelby, Ohio; and Henry Hammond and Guy Hammond, both of Shiloh; two sisters, Judy Hall of Bellville, Ohio, and Mary Berry of Mansfield; and three grandchildren, Lindsey, Morgan and Madison Jones.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Holy Family Church in Ashland by Father Lee Trimbur. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park with military rites by American Legion Post 93 of Kenova.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland.
