Lucy M. Nolen, 73, of Ashland, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at her home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Nolen was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Boyd County, the daughter of the late George and Hannah McNeil Miles.
She was the widow of George Nolen, who died in 1975.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Meade Station Church of God, the Creative Arts Club and the Flatwoods Poetry Society. She received many honors for her painting and poetry.
She is survived by a son, George R. Nolen of Grayson, Ky.; two daughters, Brenda (Kelly) Collins of Greenup, Ky., and Linda (Jim) Triplett of Catlettsburg, Ky.; three brothers, Herston Miles of Virginia, Woodrow Miles of Dayton, Ohio, and Luther Miles of Bellefonte, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Oliver Miles and Stanley Miles, and four sisters, Hazel Qualls, Avis Conley, Minnie Collins and Lizzy Miles.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at the Meade Station Church of God by the Rev. Charles Ervin and the Rev. Terry Clayton. Burial will be in the Miles Family Cemetery in Boyd County.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Steen Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel and from noon to time of service Monday at the church.
