1923-2002
Ralph F. Hinkle, 79, of Westwood, Ky., formerly of Ragland, W.Va., died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Hinkle was born Jan. 27, 1923, in McRoberts, Ky., a son of the late Frank James and Ida McGraw Hinkle.
He was a former electrician with the Coal Mines of Thacker, W.Va. He was a U.S. Marines veteran and served in the Caribbean and the South Pacific area. He was also a member of Second Baptist Church on Williams Avenue in Ashland, Ky., the American Legion Post #76, and Pearl Harbor Survivors, was a 32nd degree Mason and a Kentucky colonel, and was a dance instructor for the Boyd County Senior Citizens.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Mary Howard Hinkle of Westwood; a son, Jim Hinkle of Colorado; a stepson, Tom and Mildred Schuster of Oklahoma; two daughters, Inez Hinkle and Mary C. Hinkle, both of West Virginia; a brother, Jim Hinkle of Ragland; a sister, Evelyn Vinson of Ragland; and two special friends, Everett and Helen Hall of Westwood.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at Steen Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel by the Rev. Paul Dillow. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #93 of Kenova.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
