Thomas Redmond Ross, 83, of Ashland, Ky., died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, in Veterans Administration Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.
Mr. Ross was born March 9, 1919, in Norfolk, Va., a son of the late John William and Mary Lydia Boggs Ross.
He was with Ashland Oil Inc. for 32 years and was district manager when he retired in 1981. He became vice president for B.T. Energy Corp. in Louisville until his retirement in 1985.
He was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a degree in industrial engineering and business, was a member of Cotillion Club and Pi Kappa Alpha, while at Virginia Tech, and was a Kentucky colonel. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant in the infantry.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Douglas Ross; two sons, Thomas R. Ross Jr. of Little Rock, Ark., and J. Douglas Ross of Bowling Green, Ky.; a daughter, Martha Lindsey Ross Cooke of Lovingston, Va.; a brother, John W. Ross Jr. of Maui, Hawaii; six grandchildren, S. Bryan Cooke Jr., Lindsey Elizabeth Cooke Floyd, Megan Lisa Ross Hawkins, Thomas R. Ross III, John Douglas Ross Jr., and James William Ross; and great-granddaughters, Naomi Elizabeth Floyd, Rebecca Caitlin Ross and Chloe Nichole Ross.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Calvary Episcopal Church by the Rev. Mann Valenine VI. Burial will be in Machpelah Cemetery in Mt. Sterling.
Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends at the church.
