Sallie Howard McNew, of Ashland, Ky., entered eternal rest on Tuesday, Nov. 12, in South Baldwin Regional Medical Center in Foley, Ala.
Mrs. McNew was born Feb. 21, 1914, in Orchard, in Magoffin County, Ky., a daughter of the late Allen G. and Susan Wireman Howard.
She was a homemaker and mother and a long-time resident of Ashland. A graduate of Magoffin Baptist Institute, she also attended Ashland Public Schools and enjoyed reading, traveling and gardening. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ashland, Grand Lodge of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, and Forest Rose Lodge No. 656 of Russell.
Mrs. McNew was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, the late William Joseph McNew, on May 13, 2001; and three brothers, the late Herbert C. Howard, Harlan M. Howard and John Jackson Howard.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William Howard McNew and Barbara McNew of Louisville, Ky., and John Jackson McNew and Debbie McNew of Cumming, Ga.; one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Sinclair-Appelt and Glenn D. Appelt of Gulf Shores, Ala., and Estes Park, Colo.; one granddaughter, Christy Ann Allen of Nashville, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews and their children.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at John Steen Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel by the Rev. Ed Talley.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 6 to 7 p.m.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park beside her husband, parents and brothers.
