Susie Helena Green McClanahan, 86, of Ashland, Ky., went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002.
She was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Ashland, to the late William Wellington and America Robinson Green.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ashland, where she belonged to the Wesleyan Circle.
She attended Ashland Center (later Ashland Community College), Marshall University and Morehead State University, earning a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in library science with summa cum laude distinction.
Susie was a retired teacher and had spent 17 wonderful years at Poage and Oakview Elementary schools. She dearly loved her little students and was dearly loved by them.
Her husband, John Berton McClanahan, preceded her in death in 1982.
She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Mrs. Hack (Thelma) Estep, Delma Opal Green, Mrs. T.J. (Lucy) Bingham of Prestonsburg and Sally Mae Green Razor, as well as three brothers, William Wellington Green Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio, John Paul Green and O.M. "Buck" Green.
Susie is survived by one daughter, Barbara Sue McClanahan, a teacher; one son, John Berton McClanahan Jr., a pharmacist, his wife, Jilson; and one grandson, John B. "Tre" McClanahan III. She is also survived by one brother, Morris Robinson Green and wife Dottie of Hurricane, W.Va.; and many dearly beloved nieces and nephews and their children.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at Steen Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel with Pastor David Fultz officiating. Interment will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
