The Rev. Lee A. Gore of Ashland died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, in Kingsbrooke Lifecare Center.
Reverend Gore was born Feb. 8, 1916, in Holden, W.Va., to the late Sherman and Lavennia Gore. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Lee Gore of Ashland.
He was a graduate of Chapmanville High School, becoming a Christian during his senior year there. After graduating from Marshall University, he attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and later received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Clarksville School of Theology.
Reverend Gore was a veteran of World War II, having been involved in three invasions and eight major campaigns. He spent the next 57 years serving churches in West Virginia, Kentucky and Florida. He has worked with the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board in Florida and has held many offices in the association.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elouise Gore, and two daughters, Judyth Gale See (C.F. See III) of Louisa, Ky., and Lynda Sands (Marvin Sands) of Carlisle, Ohio. His six grandchildren are William Frederick (Rebecca) See of Bridgeport, W.Va., Derek Thomas (Mandie) Sands of Miamisburg, Ohio, Douglas Davis Gore of Lexington, Ky., Mary Elizabeth (Michael) Kennedy of Middletown, Ohio, Andrea Leigh Sands of Carlisle, Ohio, and Heather Lee Gore of Lexington, Ky.
Reverend Gore is also survived by four siblings, Lonnie Gore of Holden, W.Va., Sherman Gore of Ashland, Haley Gore of Holden, W.Va., and Lora Evans of Stollings, W.Va.
In his retirement, Reverend Gore enjoyed writing music and poetry, playing guitar and doing artwork in oils, acrylic and watercolors.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Ric Frazier. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
