Earl Spears

1920-2003

Earl Spears, 83, of Ashland, died Friday, May 9, 2003, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.

Mr. Spears was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Riceville, a son of late Jerry and Della Rivers Spears. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Ann Spears.

He was the husband of Anna Trimble Spears of Ashland, to whom he was married for 57 years. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and was awarded the Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal. He served in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines.

He was a retired employee of North America Rockwell, Newton Falls, Ohio, and a guard for Harvison Walker in Windham, Ohio. He was a member of Mavity Freewill Baptist Church in Cannonsburg.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Adam E. "Butch" Spears Jr. of Catlettsburg; a daughter, Leneva Rogers of Ashland; grandchildren Michele Scott, Michael Rogers, Mark Rogers, Matt Rogers, Marty Rogers and Janice Nicole Green; and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 12, at Steen Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel, with the Rev. Powell Joe Collins and the Rev. John Haney officiating.

Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

May the Lord be with you and comfort you in your time of sorrow. May the wonderful memories fill the void. We remember Uncle Jerry and Aunt Della with very fond memories. Aunt Della was a sister to Doshia Rivers Tackett who is our family. Love and prayers to all. Tom, Lona and family Warner Robins, Ga.
