Mary Caines

1921-2003

Mary Caines, 82, of Ashland, died Saturday, May 24, in Kingsbrook Life Care Center in Ashland after an extended illness.

Mrs. Caines was born April 26, 1921, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Lon C. and Pearl Darby Hood. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, William, George, Charles and Lon Hood; and three sisters, Ada H. Brown, Alene Thornburg, and Lora Molea.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 60 years and a secretary for Ashland Public Schools, serving at Charles Russell, Condit, and Crabbe schools for 20 years.

Survivors are one son, Mark (Trudy) Caines of Elizabethtown, Ky.; two daughters, Janelle Caines (Pat) Miller of Springfield, Ky. and Marianne Caines (Darrell) Barber of Lexington, Ky.; one sister, Bess Hood Lambert of Louisville, Ky.; and two grandchildren, Newman Miller of Louisville, Ky. and Harrison Miller of Springfield, Ky.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Blanchard Amstutz and the Rev. Dale Carden. Entombment will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time.

Friends may make contributions to the First United Methodist Church, 1800 Carter Ave, Ashland, Ky., 41101.
